The update will ensure Citroen C5 Aircross SUV Hybrid owners will receive notifications if they do not recharge their batteries regularly. The new Plug-in reminders will pop up on the screen of the electric car to remind drivers to continue to top up.
Citroen says a rise in charging frequency would further increase the proportion of electric-only journeys.
This would limit the amount of times cars tap into their ICE and would therefore reduce fuel consumption.
When connected to a wallbox or public charging point, the C5 Autocross SUV hybrid can receive a full charge in less than two hours.
The car is capable of up to 34 miles per charge according to WLTP estimates.
Citroen says the new PHEV notifications will also be featured on their new Citroen C5 X Hybrid model when it comes to the UK next year.
According to Electrek, over the air updates enable a car’s performance to be “continuously updated” and “improved”.
They said the updates give manufacturers a chance to “freshen up” finished products remotely.
