The next mainline entry in the Battlefield series, colloquially known as Battlefield 6, could be unveiled in June, according to a new post from the official Twitter account. Electronic Arts, the publisher behind the hit military shooter franchise, has long-teased a new title, currently scheduled for a fall 2021 release.
Electronic Arts first teased an imminent Battlefield 6 reveal on April 22, promising more details on the upcoming title “soon™.” That saw several reputable industry insiders report an early May unveiling, as seen with recent mainline Battlefield launches, ahead of full gameplay demo via its annual EA Play showcase. It saw speculation run wild, with alleged audio from the trailer surfacing online last Friday, and featured artists 2WEI dropping an ambiguous tweet for a coming trailer.
But it appears the next Battlefield takes to the stage this June, with the official Battlefield Twitter account dropping yet another cryptic tweet, indicative of the upcoming reveal. “Words that rhyme with Soon: June Boom,” Electronic Arts posted to Twitter, referencing its previous reveal teaser. While unconfirmed, it suggests the next Battlefield game remains a few weeks out.
Current reports suggest the next Battlefield entry will return to the modern-day, embracing a near-future setting merging existing military technologies with military robots, drones, and other advanced gadgets. Electronic Arts has previously pitched the experience as a “next-gen” experience, among its largest yet, expected to push higher player counts in multiplayer, larger maps, and improved destruction.
The next game, reportedly a soft reboot, solely titled Battlefield, represents a fresh approach following the 20th-century warfare seen in Battlefield 1 and Battlefield V. The new game is expected to target Xbox Series X, Xbox Series S, PlayStation 5, and PCs, although with availability on Xbox One and PlayStation 4 consoles unclear at this time.
