Kochi: A high court bench of Justice Amit Rawal, while ordering enforcement of road safety rules on Tuesday, directed Kochi city police commissioner to take action against traffic policemen who use mobile phones while on duty.
The court said it has noticed traffic policemen talking on mobile phones while on duty and that the public can file complaints against such policemen who are using phones other than for official purpose or for emergencies. The public can record videos of such policemen talking on phones and the commissioner should ensure that action is taken if such videos are sent to authorities, the court directed. Two toll-free numbers should be set up for receiving complaints, the court added.
Further, the court pointed out that vehicles are continuing with honking despite the court’s directive against it and said buses and lorries are continuously using horns in areas where use of horns are permitted only for emergencies. Police should ask vehicle owners to remove such ‘pressure horns’, the court said while directing to put up ‘no horn’ and ‘silent zone’ boards.
