Apple is a huge corporation and one would not generally think that such corporations would be the ones to protect people in any way, shape or form. With all of that having been said and out of the way, it is important to note that Apple has actually been paving the way for users to have more privacy on the internet as well as more control over what information of theirs gets collected and where this information can be used by the various tech firms out there.

Part of Apple’s attempts to give users more privacy is a new setting that is about to be rolled out that would allow users to opt out of personalized ads. Most social networks and digital advertising platforms have made it clear that this would be disastrous but Apple has remained more or less steadfast. Instagram entering the fray applied a lot more pressure to Apple though, and this has lead to the company delaying the rollout of this setting that would give users the option to opt out of personalized advertising until late next year in 2021, but it seems like Apple isn’t going to be doing away with the upcoming setting anytime soon for a wide variety of reasons.

Instagram has put a lot of weight behind its arguments and according to CEO Adam Mosseri the social media platform will be trying to get Apple to change its mind. The main argument that he is giving is one that a lot of top level executives and other critics of this development have raised, namely that advertising revenue will drop by 50% if users get the option of looking into this setting. Mosseri is reportedly going to try and argue a middle ground where iOS users have some control but they can’t turn personalization off entirely. It will be interesting to see what will happen as these two industry giants lock horns.
