Jadavpur University to Provide Smartphones for Online Classes: As per the latest update coming in from Kolkata, city-based Jadavpur University is planning to provide android smartphones along with data-packs to students who do not have these facilities to help them attend online classes and continue their academic journey. Online Classes at the varsity for the new semester are slated to start this month soon. As per tentative timeline, online classes for arts and science are slated to begin from today i.e. 14th Sept 2020 onwards.

News Confirmed by Pro-Vice Chancellor

The news about Jadavpur University providing android handsets and internet connection to students in need was also confirmed by JU Pro-Vice-Chancellor Chiranjib Bhattacharya to PTI. In a statement issued to the new agency, Mr Bhattacharya said that “We will provide them with good quality sets compatible with net facilities, sharing, uploading and downloading options and for those needing good connectivity data pack and recharge for three months.” He also added that currently, the varsity was assessing the number of students who would need such assistance and arrangements will be made accordingly thereafter.

How will Online Classes be held?

Talking about the online classes being planned by the varsity, JU Pro-Vice-Chancellor informed the media agency that the university plans on using Google Platform as its virtual classroom for online classes. He also added that audio and video clips of lectures and course contents will be uploaded at a secure section on the university’s website.

Final Semester Exams in October

Talking about the still pending final year exams for university students, University Pro-Vice-Chancellor Chiranjib Bhattacharya said that the varsity plans to hold final year exams for college and university students in October. He added that the varsity has “decided to hold final semester exams in arts and science streams from October 1 to 10 in ‘non-contact, digital’ mode.” Providing details about the upcoming online exam, Mr Bhattacharya said that students will be sent the question papers via email online prior to the exam and students will have to download them in order to attempt the test. Two Hours will be given to the students to complete the online exams after which the answer sheets will have to be uploaded back by the students.
