KOTTAYAM: The police team investigating the Thazhathangady murder case, has begun collecting evidence. The accused in the case cooperated with the police in collecting evidence.
The three mobile phones belonging to the couple, their house keys, a scissor and knife were recovered by the police team on Saturday. The objects were found from Vembanad lake near Thanneermukkom bund in Alappuzha district.
A court, here, on Friday had granted permission for the investigation team to keep Mohammed Bilal (23), in custody till 3pm on Monday. In a statement to the police, Bilal said that he had thrown the objects into the lake. The accused showed the place from where he threw the objects into the lake. They were recovered with the help of scuba divers of the fire and rescue units and diving experts in the locality.
On Sunday, the accused will be taken to the lodge in Alappuzha where he stayed while hiding.
The youth is well versed in Assamese and Hindi, police said. He learned these languages from guest labourers. He used to spend long hours at night playing online rummy game. He incurred huge financial loss running into lakhs through this hobby.
On June 1, Mohammed Saly (65) and wife Sheeba (60), were attacked by the youth. Sheeba succumbed to her injuries while Saly is in hospital with critical injuries. The youth was the former neighbour of the couple.
