MCLAREN has revealed its fastest ever road car – the 250mph Speedtail.

Described as the modern version of the F1, the three-seater comes with an incredible price tag.

Marketed at £1.75million, anyone wanting to own one of the British supercars will have to fork out around £2.1million after taxes.

And while replacing one of the greatest cars of all time is no easy task, McLaren’s latest supercar entry has plenty to shout about in its own right.

Built with a 5.2-metre-long sweeping body, it’s designed to be as aerodynamic as possible while still offering plenty for the eye to enjoy.

Including an all-carbon fibre body, aluminium active suspension and carbon ceramic brakes, the flashy motor boasts a petrol-electric hybrid engine capable of 1,035bhp.

That gives the car the power to accelerate from 0-186mph in an eye-watering 12.8 seconds.

But arguably the most interesting feature of the Speedtail is its interior setup.

Fitted with just three seats, the driver is centrally located in the cockpit, just like the famous McLaren F1.

The racing-inspired position places a passenger either side of the driver in the teardrop-shaped compartment.

And unlike most supercars, this one is actually built for grand touring rather than track performance, meaning the British marque hasn’t skimped on the luxury inside.

Interior is trimmed with carbon fibre, aniline leather and other exclusive materials, which can be customised through the McLaren Special Operations department.

The Speedtail is due for delivery in 2020, with McLaren offering an exclusive line of just 106 cars.

Mike Flewitt, Chief Executive Officer, McLaren Automotive, said: “McLaren has never built a vehicle like the Speedtail before.

“As our first ‘Hyper-GT’, the Speedtail is the ultimate McLaren road car; a fusion of art and science that combines an astonishing maximum speed with an iconic central-driving position and a truly pioneering approach to bespoke personalisation.

“A ground-breaking hybrid powertrain sits within a lightweight carbon fibre body reminiscent of sleek ‘streamliners’ that once set world speed records, while the luxurious three-seat cockpit offers a sublime combination of an incredible driving experience, unmatched individualism and innovative materials never seen before in a road-going vehicle.”
