The all-new Kia e-Niro will boast an official range of 282 miles when it arrives in UK dealerships in April, and will cost from £32,995 after the government’s £3,500 plug-in car grant is applied.
From launch the only powertrain available will be a 64kWh lithium-ion battery pack that drives a 201bhp electric motor. That means the e-Niro will sprint from 0-62mph in 7.5 seconds and will top out at 104mph. A smaller 39kWh battery is available for the Korean market, but there is no word on whether or not the smaller battery will be offered in the UK.
Like the its sister car, the Hyundai Kona Electric, the Kia e-Niro’s range was over-estimated in recent WLTP tests, and has now been corrected from 301 miles to 282 miles. Recharging to 80 per cent capacity takes 54 minutes, and regenerative brakes also tops up the e-Niro’s battery when decelerating.
Standard kit includes an eight-inch infotainment system paired with a seven-inch digital gauge cluster, satellite navigation with European mapping, rear privacy glass, rear parking sensors and camera, climate control and automatic headlights.
Other interior comforts include electrically adjustable and heated leather seats, a heated steering wheel, Apple CarPlay, Android Auto and a 320-watt JBL sound system with a subwoofer. Outside, the e-Niro features 17-inch alloy wheels, LED daytime running lights and roof rails.
The e-Niro’s list of safety equipment is equally comprehensive with lane-keeping assist, forward collision avoidance, hill-start assist and “smart” adaptive cruise control, capable of accelerating the e-Niro to motorway speeds from a standstill.
Like the rest of the company’s range, the new e-Niro will be offered with Kia’s seven-year or 100,000 mile warranty, which covers the electric motor and battery pack.
