Oppo Confirms Find X3 Pro Launches Next Week with Snapdragon 888

Oppo has confirmed that it will unveil the Find X3 Pro next Thursday, confirming that the new flagship phone will be powered by the Snapdragon 888 chipset.

The Find X3 Pro launch will stream live on Oppo’s YouTube channel from 11:30am GMT on 11 March, and alongside a confirmation of the top-tier chipset, Oppo also teased that this will be its “first end to end one billion colour smartphone.”

The pledge echoes the Chinese firm’s promises at last year’s Oppo Inno Day event, when it claimed that the Find X3 Pro would not only boast the 10-bit colour display seen in last year’s Find X2 Pro, but would support 10-bit colour for images and video for every step from the camera, through encoding and storage, and ending at the screen.

Thanks to leaks we have a pretty good idea of what else to expect from the Find X3 Pro when it arrives. It’s tipped to feature a 6.7in 120Hz OLED display, up to 12GB RAM and 256GB storage to join the Snapdragon 888, and super-fast 65W wired charging along with 30W wireless charging.

More interesting is the rumoured camera spec. The Pro will supposedly use Sony’s 50Mp IMX766 sensor for both its main and ultrawide lenses. Even more unusually, leaks claim that Oppo won’t try and improve on the 5x zoom periscope lens in last year’s Find X2 Pro, but will instead swap it for a 25x telemacro camera.

If true, it’ll be a bold move. Samsung, Huawei, and Xiaomi have been battling it out for the best zoom lens over the last year, in a war that Oppo actually helped start with its own Reno 10x Zoom in 2019. Pivoting to a macro lens instead may prove controversial – though perhaps no more controversial than the phone’s rumoured design, which you can see in this render shared by tipster Evan Blass.

Curiously, while Oppo’s launch announcement for the UK only mentions the top-end Find X3 Pro, the event is billed as the “global Find X3 Series launch.”

Leaks before now have pointed towards up to four Find X3 phones, with the Pro joined by a vanilla Find X3 alongside a Neo and Lite. Recent speculation has suggested that the regular Find X3 model may be a China-exclusive, however we’re still expecting to see at least the Lite and Neo launch in the UK and Europe, though leaks suggest they’ll simply be re-branded versions of the Asia-exclusive Oppo Reno 5 and Reno 5 Pro+ respectively.

We’ll find out more when the Find X3 series is unveiled next Thursday, though check out our full round-up of Find X3 series leaks and rumours in the meantime. It launches the day after the Asus ROG Phone 5 is unveiled, and before that the Nubia Red Magic 6, Realme GT, and Redmi Note 10 are all set to launch this Thursday, 4 March. Truly, phone season is upon us.
