Construction to repair damaged sections of the Trans-Canada Highway in southwestern Newfoundland began today. Four areas of the Trans-Canada Highway and other highways in the region were damaged by heavy rainfalls earlier this week.
Water levels have subsided and crews have mobilized materials and heavy equipment to the region to prepare for new culverts to be installed.
The Department of Transportation and Infrastructure anticipates culverts arriving in the region today. All repairs to damaged highways are being completed on a priority basis.
Crews continue to monitor and assess infrastructure in the region. Motorists in the region are urged to avoid the areas to allow contractors to complete work as quickly as possible.
Updates are being provided as they become available. Additional details on the closures and other highway construction projects are available on www.nl511.ca and the NL 511 smartphone app.
