Thanks to a new report from WBetaInfo, we know that WhatsApp’s latest beta release allows users to send photos with their original quality. Hallelujah! Up until this point, users still had some semblance of control over photo quality though.
As you can see, the Quality settings have been moved to the sending screen itself.
- Automatic — if users were on WiFi, quality would be prioritized
- Best Quality — compression would keep about 80% of the original quality and resize photos bigger than 2048×2048
- Data Saver — well, the recipient could still tell what was on the photo for sure, even if it wasn’t proper quality
With the release of the latest 2.23.2.11 beta, users can not only choose to send photos in their original quality from the list, but the menu itself has been moved. Now users can find it at the bottom of the screen, whenever a photo is being prepared for dispatch. This makes the menu much easier to find, so it’s surely a welcome addition. There is no info on when this feature will be fully released to the live version of WhatsApp, but it’s awesome to see it being tested. This new option might make WhatsApp the preferred way to transfer high-quality photos in certain situations. Considering that it also has a desktop app, this opens up a lot of new possibilities.
