Apple Trims Trade-In Values on iPhones, Apple Watches

Looking to trade in your Apple device to save on a new iPhone, Mac, or Apple Watch? You may get less than expected, as Apple has quietly reduced the trade-in value of select devices by $5 to $80, MacRumors reports(Opens in a new window).

Newer iPhones saw the biggest cuts, with an $80 reduction on the iPhone 13 Pro Max, iPhone 13 Pro, and iPhone 12 Pro Max. Apple also lowered the trade-in value on most other iPhones to the tune of $10 to $50. For example, the iPhone 7 Plus now gets you $50 instead of $60.

Apple also shaved $5 to $10 off here and there on Apple Watches, bringing the first-gen Apple Watch SE, for example, down to $65 from $70. Keep in mind, all of these prices are “up to,” so the actual amount you receive may vary.

But you’re in luck if you have select MacBook models, three of which increased in value with the recent changes. The MacBook Pro got a $40 boost ($670 vs. $630), the MacBook Air went up by $20 ($460 vs. $440), and the MacBook went up $10 ($110 vs. $100). You can also get about $35 more for a Mac mini.

Apple last modified trade-in values in November, CNET reports(Opens in a new window). The iPhone 14 hit stores about a month prior, resulting in a dip in trade-in value for the iPhone 13, which went from $470 to $450. But the iMac Pro took a much bigger hit, dropping from $1,150 to $600.
