Lincoln self-storage centre to open that people use smartphones to access

A new self-storage centre is set to open in Lincoln soon with customers able to use their smartphones to gain entry to the unit rather than using physical keys or pincodes. The family-run McCarthy’s Storage World is refurbishing the old Danwood call centre on Whisby Road into a 30,000-square-foot storage facility.

Set to open later in September 2023, customers can use Nokē technology through their smartphones to open the facility and their individual storage unit. Access can also be granted remotely to friends, family or colleagues if needed.

Units will range in size from that of an old telephone box to a double garage with larger units available on request. The site has free parking and equipment such as pallet trucks and trolleys to help people safely move items from their vehicles to their units.

Mike McCarthy, managing director of McCarthy’s Storage World, said: “We are absolutely delighted to be opening a state-of-the-art storage facility in Lincoln. As a family-run business with over 50 years of experience, we pride ourselves on our relationships with customers, and we can’t wait to get to know the people of Lincoln better.

“Whether you’re an individual undertaking renovations at home or moving house, or if you’re a business which needs additional space for stock, we look forward to welcoming you. The Nokē technology is a fantastic move forward for self-storage, as it makes things much simpler for customers – most people tend to have their phones on them anyway, so there’s less chance of turning up and not being able to gain entry. But it also makes the facility more secure, which is obviously our number one priority.”

The new technology will mean there’s less of a risk of customers losing their keys or forgetting their code. Visits can also be accurately tracked and the units are linked up to a full security system.
