Meta, the parent company of WhatsApp, Instagram, Facebook, and Messenger, is finally bringing its AI chatbot to India. This comes four months after the company launched its Llama 3-powered AI chatbot globally.

Indian users will now be able to use Meta AI by updating the respective apps and use the chatbot in their DMs and feed as well as use it to generate AI images. The AI chatbot will be available in English, for now, with plans to make it available in multiple Indian languages in the future.

Meta AI arrives in India: Here’s what it can do on Facebook, WhatsApp, Messenger, and Instagram

Meta AI is uniquely integrated into the different platforms but there are several commonalities across them. On WhatsApp, you can chat with Meta AI separately as well as invoke it by typing and selecting ‘@Meta AI’ within a group chat when needed.

You will find Meta AI integrated similarly into the messaging options on Instagram, Facebook, and Messenger as well.

On Facebook, you will also find Meta AI integrated right into your feed. This will enable you to get info about posts while scrolling through the feed.

Meta AI can also generate images when given an ‘imagine’ prompt. The created image can be animated as well, which really makes it come alive.

You can also visit on your browser and start chatting with the bot there.

Powered by Llama 3, Meta’s most advanced large language model (LLM) to date, Meta AI can help you get general info, context-specific suggestions, learn about topics, create content, draft better emails, solve math, and much more, all without having to leaving the app.

Why was Meta AI delayed in India?

Although not explicitly stated by Meta, it’s likely that the delay in releasing the AI chatbot to India was because of the recently-concluded general elections in the country. During this time, the company had made its AI chatbot available to select users in the country, and only for testing purposes. With the threat of misuse impacting elections in world’s largest democracy now out of the way, the company has begun rolling out Meta AI on its several social media and messaging apps in the country.

Make sure to update your apps to access Meta AI. If you don’t see Meta AI yet, fret not. It is being rolled out gradually and you’re bound to get it soon enough.
