Ford is recalling nearly 63,000 examples of its Maverick hybrid pickup truck — a former long-term test vehicle of ours, one we owned and had little trouble with for a year — over issues with the instrument panel.

Affected vehicles include model-year 2022-23 Maverick hybrids. The instrument panel cluster may not illuminate warning lights or gauges (including the speedometer) with critical safety information, increasing the risk of a crash.

Dealers will update the instrument panel cluster’s software for free as a remedy. Ford will notify vehicle owners March 18, but owners looking for more information can contact the automaker at 866-436-7332 (Ford’s number for this recall is 24C01), the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration’s vehicle-safety hotline at 888-327-4236, or visit its website to check your vehicle identification number and learn more.
