First, it was disposable cameras. Then it was low-rise jeans. Now, Gen-Z’s latest “vintage” obsession is the flip phone.
If you’re a millennial like me, this was probably your first phone. If you’re Gen Z… you probably never had this phone and you’re first phone was probably a smart phone…so you may want one now!
Gen-Zer’s are buying them at Walmart and Amazon (some for as cheap as $20). There are tons of TikTok videos of young people unboxing them, and bedazzling their cases just as we all did back in the day.

But the big takeaway here is they love the pictures these phones take… they love the blurry aesthetic through the low-quality camera.
AND… they love the ability to disconnect – or as much as that’s even possible in 2023.
They still have iphones for their day-to-day (music, emails etc) but when they go out, they take their flip phone!
Apparently, it’s a way to meet new people because it’s a total conversation starter! Plus, it’s cheap, the battery lasts longer, it allows you to be more present…and it’s basically indestructible.
